Project Update – New House Near Shaftsbury (Cedar Springs)

Progress of a contemporary vernacular 4-bedroom house in rural Dorset

A greenfield site on the edge of a village curtilage, Fisher Design Studio obtained planning permission in 2023 for this uniquely designed building.

The design ethos was create a large dwelling on the outskirts of a village, avoiding convention to overcome planning criteria.

The form of the dwelling seeks to mimic that of a small holding, given the site's location and surrounding landscape including an AONB site to the north.

Working alongside the Planning Team at Dorset Council we were able to obtain planning permission and move forward with project management of the scheme.

With the development now reaching completion, the new house hosts 5 bedrooms, with spacious living areas. The building is constructed on piled foundations with SIPs construction, faced with both flint and natural timber cladding with profiled metal roofing to reflect the agricultural make-up of the design. 

Landscape works are now close to completion, whilst the interior of the building presently is reaching the end of the program with decorators and snagging.
